About
Overnight Stays:
Families participating
in the DayBreak Shelter Program spend evenings and nights at one of the
various participating churches. Overnight volunteers from the hosting
churches spend the night with the host families to provide them support
and security.
Overnight Host Information:
During the Inner
Southeast Church Group's hosting week, host families overnight at St David's
Church, located at:
2800 SE Harrison
503-232-8461
- You will need
to bring a sleeping bag and pillow.
- Arrive at St David's
by:
7:00pm and plan to stay until 7am Sunday thru Fri
7:00pm and plan to stay until 9am Saturday
Note:
There are additional coordination responsibilities for those volunteers
staying overnight on Saturday. See notes below.
- Upon arriving
at St David's, please let the dinner volunteers know that you have arrived.
They will be working with guests in the kitchen finishing dinner clean-up.
Dinner volunteers will stay until you arrive.
- Lock the front
door of the church at 10pm
- Encouraging "lights
out" policy at 11pm
- Encouraging guests
to be up and ready to leave in the van by
7am Sunday through Friday
9am Saturday
- Breakfast foods
are provided for the participants but guests are responsible for making
breakfast and cleaning the dishes.
- Make sure the
DayBreak Shelter log gets to the van driver prior to their departure
so they can take it to the Day Center.
- Please help to
limit guest phone use to emergencies only.
For Emergencies:
Please follow both of these steps:
1. Call 911 for medical or police/fire related interventions. In the front
of DayBreak Shelter log are medical release/information sheets on all
the guests which may be of service to medical personnel
2. Call either Michelle (503-235-3276) or Debbie (503-236-3786). They
will follow-up with the Human Solutions Shelter Coordinator.
Additional Responsibilities
of Saturday Evening Host:
By Sunday AM, the following must be completed before the guests leave
the church. Please help them to plan out and complete the following tasks
between Sat PM and Sun, AM. Ensure they are ready to leave the church
by 7AM:
- Chairs and tables
cleaned, folded and stacked along the wall
- Make sure parish
hall/dining area has been mopped
- Remove food and
garbage from the rooms
- Strip cots of
linen
- Put dirty laundry
in bags/baskets (please keep wet items separate)
- Prepare their
belongings for moving
- Fold up blankets
and stack them in the linen room. Place pillows in linen room.
- Fold up cots
- Turn heat off
in all the rooms
- Neatly place the
cots and tubs with personal belongings along the hallway leading to
the rooms (there is a wide open areas against the wall).
General
Information:
- Please note in
the communication section of the DayBreak Shelter log for that week
and day any issues that arise during you shift that the Day Center should
be aware of. Examples might be continuously causing the van to leave
late, not respecting curfew or other schedules, verbal abuse, not respecting
property, or if any other Guest Guidelines are not followed. Please
also feel free to include positive comments when appropriate as well!
Note: The Day Center staff will issue violations to guests who
do not comply with the Guest Guidelines.
